shatter

glass shatters
a thousand
glittering
shards
flying out
scattering
shining in the air

you try to pick up the pieces
they pierce your hands
painfully
blood welling up
red
bright
a million pieces of pain

too many shards lost
scattered in the aching sky
never put together again
not quite right
not fixed
the pieces not quite fitting

delicate and beautiful
something you wish was yours
but
one simple slip
one stupid accident
and the beauty
the purity
perfection
lost
never to be restored

shattered glass
can never be the same as before
the sharp edges
cut you
the loss fills you with regret
longing for what was once had

now
all thats left is the pieces
to try and pick up
try to not hurt
but you can't
